krishna teaches me a quick lesson

I just finished uploading the prayers of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada to my iPod shuffle. Why, pray tell, did I do this?

possible answers:

a.) I have converted to the Hindu religion

b.) I have an interest of learning Hindi

c.) my 60 year old boss loved my little iPod shuffle so much and asked if he could have it.

(it’s C.)

Earlier today - I was charging my mini shuffle on my computer @ work. In the middle of a quick break I showed my little prized gadget to my boss. He was so amazed and impressed by it that he asked if he could have it. And he is not one to ask for anything. He liked it that much. (Way to go, Apple) For those of you that know me well - I cannot even part with this thing… ever. I have it in my purse, attached to my lapel at all times. But somehow when my boss asked for it today - I just let it go… and said yes with no hesitation. I just gave away something I am so terribly attached to.

You see, I feel really fortunate that I work for someone who is so spiritual and devout to his religion that everday at work really seems like a lecture/spiritual retreat. Well, of course, not everyday… but a good portion of my time there feels that way. Apart from you know - the usual grind and slam of a crazy workday. But you know… the idea of my boss really enjoying the use of this iPod… using it to listen to his prayers, chants, and the audio chapters of the Bhagavad-Gita.. I really felt like it was a donation… to God… that somehow - during those moments when my boss will be en route to India, Thailand, Hong Kong or whatever country he flies off to… he will have these prayers onhand and I know that it will only help with keeping up with his strict and spiritual lifestyle.

The idea of letting go of material possessions… having no attachments to any of it…

is true freedom. And the combination of that with giving to a person that appreciates something that you own.. no matter how small - is so damn rewarding.. and really worth living for.
