After Sri Caitanya arrived back in Jaganatha Puri from Vrindavan, Svarupa Damodara sent word to the devotees of Bengal. The devotees of Bengal then meet with Sivananda Sena who arranged for their trip to Jaganatha Puri to see Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

On the way to Jaganatha Puri a dog began to follow the party and Sivananda Sena welcomed him. Sivananda Sena would have the dog fed cooked rice and even paid a boatman to allow the dog to ride in the ferry across the river.

One evening the servants neglected to feed the dog who went away in search of food.

Upon arriving in Jaganatha Puri the devotees saw that the dog was sitting near Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who was feeding him remnants of a coconut he was eating, and instructing him to chant the Holy Name.

All the devotees were very surprised to see this. Sivananda Sena offered his obeisance’s to the dog.

The next day the dog could not be found for he had gone back to Godhead.

Lessons of this story:
- If we become even the dog of a Vaisnava, and serve him with faith we will induce the merciful glance of the Lord.
- Induce everyone to take prasadam and chant the Holy Name for their transcendental benefit.
- Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is very merciful.
- Anyone who gets the mercy of the Lord should be offered humble obeisances, no matter what they were before.
