The hand of fate…

“At first all the followers of Advaita Acarya shared a single opinion. But later they followed two different opinions, as ordained by providence.”

From Hari-sauri prabhu’s diary

Here is my first person account of the final meeting between Srila Prabhupada and his Godbrother Srila BR Sridhar Swami. This is from my diary. It has not been edited and is not yet in print

Paul the apostle and Hare Krishnas

I study much about it and how people can and should get involved in God’s work, but many times I do not do enough on my own. So, I got up, drive in to downtown Denver, about 1/2 hour away, and showed up at the temple for the International Society of Krishna Consciousness, aka Hare Krishnas.

The Best of All Companions!

I’m angry with those drunken tourists who treated you so improperly on the flight to Mauritius. It’s not good for you to travel alone.

DIARY OF A VAISNAVA PASTOR

Hladini Shakti dasa, a disciple of HH Tamal Krsna Goswami, serves as a Pastoral Counselor in a hospice facility in Kansas. Because his experiences are so inspiring, we invite our readers to share his enthusiasm in caring for the terminally-ill.

A Little Corner of Hell

The exchange brought a smile to my face. It reminded me of a soldier receiving new orders from his superiors. In fact, Srila Prabhupada sometimes compared the expansion of Lord Caitanya’s sankirtan movement with a military exercise.

Replacing Eggs in Cakes

From Kurma’s blog: Probably my most often asked question is how to successfully replace eggs in a cake.

Sound like someone you know…?

I just did the “9 Roles of a Successful Team: Discover where you Excel” training. It’s based on the Belbin team role inventory.

Here’s what my fortune cookie says:

Yours is essentially a pioneering profile. Your best line of work is one in which you are required to explore possibilities and to take advantage of new opportunities. […]

Message to demons everywhere

Let me expand a little on that last statement:

That presentation (”the class”) must become world class. The vision: “People will come to Brisbane to study our program.”

It’s not that I want people to come to study the program here in Brisbane because I have a desire to be famous. The fact of the matter is […]

Sunday Feast

Last night was the Sunday Feast program.

It went well. It is thickening - we are building a stronger team and more authentic community based on service, rather than simply a crowd. Having a strong strategic focus is having its effect in creating organizational alignment.

I gave the class, and when I say the class I mean […]

Diary Update

Mangalarati this morning at the temple, 16 rounds before 6 am, memorized Bg 18.46, packed up PA for Sunday Feast. Listening to H.H. Hrdayananda Goswami - “The practices of Krishna Consciousness are necessary, but not sufficient” - nice.

We are instituting a sadhana reform this week. 10 pm talking curfew, 5 …

Saturday night program

Saturday night we had our program at the ashram. It’s been pizza for the past three weeks. This week we had foccacia bread, which turned out like a pizza anyway… and no salad, because it’s Caturmasya, the rainy season in India when you practice different austerities each month for four …

Strategic Planning

I briefly looked at my copy of Rick Warren’s “The Purpose-driven Church” last night before taking rest. On the dust jacket flap he makes the same point that was made in Andy Stanley et al’s “7 Practices of Effective Ministry”, and in my article from last year “People are the …

Search for Sri Ashram

Param is not into the Milton place because of the Feng-shui. It’s at the end of a street so the energy of the traffic flow hits it full-on. My friend Raivata lived in a place like that in Christchurch, right on a major T intersection. After we stayed there with …

Search for Sri Ashram

We’ve looked at three places so far.

Dutton Park
4 stops from Central on the Beenleigh Line. The house itself is 1 minute from the train station.

Graceville
7 stops from Central on the Ipswich Line. The house itself is right next to the river, about 25 minutes walk from the train …

Weekend meeting - Sunday Feast

Tri Yuga reckons I should put the audio recording of this section of the meeting online, to give some idea of the back end thinking processes that lead to decisions and implementation on the ground. If there is any demand for it I might.

This section of the meeting started with …

Weekend meeting - Loft

In the Loft section of the meeting we revamped our timetable - we will now do Monday to Thursday yoga at 6.30 pm, and scrap Saturday morning. That’s based on our observations of guest flow and our team resourcing capability.

Saturday morning is pretty heavy after Friday night’s harinam and Bhagavad-gita …

Loft Preaching Presentation in Sydney

Saturday night last week we gave a presentation about Loft preaching in Sydney, at Manjulali’s house. About 20 devotees from Sydney and Newcastle were in attendance. I wasn’t really sure how to structure the presentation. I didn’t want to come across as Mr Know-it-all, so I took the approach of …
